Workshop on Random Photonics

Successful Conclusion of the 1st TETRA Workshop on Metamaterials and Cancer Detection

The inaugural workshop organized under the TETRA COST Action CA23125, titled "The mETAmaterial foRmalism approach to recognize cAncer", was successfully held on April 6–7, 2025. This two-day event brought together researchers in the fields of metamaterials, photonics, and biomedical diagnostics to explore innovative approaches for cancer detection.

Hosted in a hybrid format, the workshop featured a diverse program of keynote speeches, technical sessions, and panel discussions. Notable presentations included:

"Metamaterials Meeting Medicine" by Prof. Tatjana Gric (VILNIUS TECH)

"Photosensitiser-Free Direct Laser Treatment of Cancer" by Prof. Edik Rafailov (Aston University)

"Multifunctional Metaoptics" by Prof. Federico Capasso (Harvard University)

"Spin and orbital angular momenta in biomedical diagnosis and tissues characterisation" by Prof. Igor Meglinski (Aston University)

"Noninvasive Bone Cancer Detection Based on Microwave Patch Antenna" by Dr. Volkan Akdoğan (İskenderun Technical University)

With the aim of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, the workshop enabled productive discussions among the participating working groups.
